Fuck Covid.
Yeah I said it.
Travel is back and the world is ready for tourism. So get ready to rock that passport as I list some of the hottest travel destinations for 2023. Some of these destinations are picking up steam because they recently dropped restrictions or because the world is catching on to how special they are. The below is in no particular order:
1. Cappadocia, Türkiye:
Why it’s worth it: Stunning scenery both above and underground, Cappadocia is a geological phenomenon and it’s not just a summer destination! This is one of those rare destinations that can be enjoyed any season and will offer you a completely different vibe from the other.
What to expect: Balloon rides, mystical fairy chimneys, rich cultural history and authentic meals are things you can expect in Cappadocia. Expect snow in the winter and desert like heat in the summer with breathtaking sunsets. Expect to find incredible gourmet cuisine for incredibly low prices.
When to go: End of April to early June, September and October as well as December for a winter, snowy vibe.
2. Paros Island, Greece
Why it’s worth it: Because it is quickly replacing Mykonos! During the summer of 2021, Paros saw 100% max capacity bookings from Airbnbs to hotels to car rentals and Greek Island goers were expanding their island reach and skipping Mykonos to enjoy this gorgeous party island that offers them a new vibe. You better get there before the madness begins.
What to expect: Stunning blue and white houses, cliff side scenery, amazing nightlife with international DJ’s and spectacular beaches.
When to go: June-September would be considered the high season. Early June is still early in the season and might offer the best deals. Avoid August if you can. Expert tip: early October is a fantastic time to visit Greece. The weather is still amazing, less hot of course and the prices go way down.
3. Petra, Jordan
Why it’s worth it: Petra is quickly popping up as one of the most desired travel destinations for its movie set feels and superb rich history. Not sold yet? How about the fact that it’s considered one of the modern wonders of the world and is one of the most famous archeological sites known to man? The hairs on the back of my neck stand just talking about it.
What to expect: Royal Tombs, monasteries, sacrificial grounds and hot air balloon rides! Expect camel rides, desert heat and respecting Middle Eastern culture like covering up when visiting sacred places.
When to go: The peripheral seasons are probably best. That being Spring and Autumn. Nothing worse than being in that part of the world in the dead of summer. It is a desert so remember to pack on the sunscreen and bring some layers for those chilly, dry nights.
4. Marrakesh, Morocco
Why it’s worth it: Want to know a little secret? I am Moroccan. Both my Mom and Dad are from Morocco, in fact I come from a long line of moroccans. Which is why I grew up eating the best cuisine in the world and refuse to go a whole week without tagine or couscous. Marrakesh is worth it for the food and the wonderful hotel riads that whisk you away to a magical land. Marrakesh will make you feel like you’ve been transported in time.
What to expect: Hectic busy streets, call to prayer, one of the busiest souks in the world, delectable tagines and Moroccan dishes and finding peace in your hotel riad. Expect desert quading and stunning architecture.
When to go: May-October is best, however be prepared for lots of rain in the spring and fall seasons.
5. Pamukkale, Türkiye
Why it’s worth it: Not many places in the world offer natural salt baths with cascading terraces situated near ancient Greek Roman ruins that take you back in time. This place is worth it not only because it is a spa day, but because you will be treated to a piece of history, all explorable by foot! Sunsets in Pamukkale are unlike any other! If you are already staying in Izmir or Bodrum, Pamukkale is an easy 3-4 hour drive. It makes for a spectacular overnight trip!
What to expect: The smell of sulfur (but worth it), tourists bathing in the natural salt pools, warm mineral rich waters, spectacular sunsets and hot air balloon rides to view the ancient grounds from above. Expect to see the well-preserved ruins of the Greek-Roman city of Hierapolis, a Unesco world heritage site.
When to go: Early Spring all the way to early fall, between April to October.
